At the University of Lagos, the Federal Government has inaugurated the country’s first solar-powered electric car charging station (UNILAG).
The Elective Vehicle Pilot Project is a program of the National Automotive Design and Development Agency (NADDC).
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, was present for the commissioning, which took place on Tuesday at the university’s Faculty of Engineering.
Senator Osita Izunaso, NADDC Board Chairman; NADDC Director-General, Jelani Aliyu; UNILAG VC, Prof. Oluwatowin Ogundipe; and Anant Badjatya, Chief Executive Officer of Stallion Group, were among the others.
According to Adebayo, the aim is to serve as an effective platform for concentrated R&D into practical electrification solutions for Nigeria and Africa.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s government continues to encourage advanced technology transfer and the development of smart human capital, according to the ministry.
Aliyu stated in his remarks that the agency is dedicated to encouraging the adoption, development, manufacture, and use of modern technologies in Nigeria’s automotive sector.
